Philipsen was all glory in his lead-out until Kooij caught up with him. He also overtook Timothy Dupont (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB). No one was a match for him today as the rider had his eyes set out for the podium and was not falling short on effort. Philipsen attacked with a sprint and was happy that he had left Kooij behind but it was not that easy to shake off the 20-year-old.

Due to a massive crash with almost only 3 km to the final line, the rest of the peloton was awarded the same finishing time but Kooij dominated the first day of the five-day long event.
