Primoz led out a perfectly timed crash at Tomares, but he was taken down seconds later as his wheel collided with that of Fred Wright. He endured many injuries as a result. Rogilic said that he suffered the crash due to “a rider’s behavior”:

This was not OK, This shouldn’t happen. People move on swiftly as if nothing happened. For me, that doesn’t apply. This is not the way I want the sport to continue, and I want to make that clear

The cause of the crash was not bad road or safety issues, it was because of general behavior. As Rogilic said:

The crash was not caused by a bad road or a lack of safety but by a rider’s behavior. I don’t have eyes on my back. Otherwise, I would have run wide. Wright came from behind and rode the handlebars out of my hands before I knew it.

Jumbo-Visma has raised safety concerns in an article that they published on their website. The article suggests that it is about time the riders change their attitude towards such matters. The rider’s cycling behavior is mostly to be blamed in most cases.

On the other hand, Fred Wright termed the accident as a racing incident, he said:

I went around Primož as he lost ground. This was of course not on purpose. I hope he is OK

Primoz Rogilic is an outstanding rider currently riding for Jumbo-Visma. The performance of Jumbo-Visma throughout the 2022 season has been unbelievable. Rogilic’s UCI World Ranking is 3 while his PCS ranking is 4. Roglic was on his chase of Remco Evenepoel when the crash happened. Sadly he had to abandon the Vuelta shortly after.
