The First Ergonomic Saddle Dedicated To Women: It’s Finally Happening!

Hold on! Before you blast at me about how ergonomic saddles are a thing of the past, read on to find out exactly what I mean.

Prologo may have been a little too late to jump in on this bandwagon but it’s always better to be late than never isn’t it? Well, They have finally decided to launch their first ergonomic saddle dedicated to women: Eva Scratches.

Prologo has spent years studying the anatomy of the female body gathering help from the top women’s UCI Worlteam. Their goal? To make sure that every woman enjoys a champion’s ride!

This saddle is said to have the racing DNA because it has been designed with the first-hand involvement of Marta Cavalli, the FDJ SUEZ Futuroscope rider with victories at the Freccia Vallone as well as the Amstel Gold Race. The saddle is the answer that the most demanding cyclists have been looking for: extreme comfort while some extreme riding.

The Anatomical Shape

The Scratch Eva also has a T-shape just like its predecessor Scratch M5. Nonetheless, the shape of the saddle is more accommodating to the female body. Prologo has moved the ‘anatomical center’ of the saddle by 5 mm. The center is more forward now to provide better support to the female pelvic area.

Since the female pelvis is wider when compared to a male pelvic area, this is a much-welcomed change. The dimensions of the seat sit at 245×140 mm which is a comfortable figure to try different riding body positions. This saddle is much more comfortable without compromising performance.

The front end of the saddle is not only 10mm wider, but it is also a bit slopping. This downward-angled shape provides better support even through some tough ridding. For example when you are riding on a steep cliff where you have to sit more toward the tip of the saddle to pedal harder.

The Padding

The saddle has padding from EVA Foams with the help of which Prologo has been able to diversify the density of the padding in the different areas of the seat according to the needs. By diversifying the density I mean that at the backend, the padding has been kept somewhat thick. Other than that, the foam used is also high-density so rest assured, you will be getting the best support possible.

Moving toward the center and the front of the saddle, the padding is a little thin. The foam is also low-density. This ensures that you feel minimal pressure during peak riding.

Different Rails For Different Ridding Needs?

The Eva Scratches is not only aimed towards women, but it is also diverse to meet the needs of different women cyclists. To support cyclists who are more performance prone, a Nano Carbon Fiber version having Nack rail is available. It is a more rigid saddle and it is lightweight to meet the rider’s needs. This version is made using carbon fiber, aluminum filaments, and kevlar. This saddle weighs only 183 g.

If you are a rider who prefers comfort over performance, there is something in store for you too. This version of the saddle is somewhat less rigid and has a greater ability to absorb vibrations. This is all due to the material that is used to make it. The saddle is made using TiroX rail infusing it in light steel alloy which makes it weigh only 232gr.

So, What’s New?

Well if you are wondering by now what’s new, you are not wrong. Prolong has been late to join the party but they have made an entry with a bang. Here’s what you should look forward to:

  • Avoid the pressure peaks with an active base and a central channel.
  • The advanced anatomy center helps in improving the position while on the saddle.
  • A specified T-shape in accordance with the female anatomy.
  • High-performing Eva Foams for greater comfort and support.

Pricing And Availability

The first version, i.e. the Neck Rail is available for $235 while you can buy the second version, The TiroX for $150. You can find both versions at Prologo or through their official dealers.

Verdict

If you are a passionate female rider, this seat is going to do wonders in making your ride comfortable. It’s sleek and comfortable and there has been no compromise on its aesthetics either.

It is time to say goodbye to those uncomfortably rigid saddles that turn cycling into a slow form of self-torture. At least, I know what I will be shopping for next!
