Caleb Ewan Heartbroken Over Missing Road World Championships, Australia

The rider feels like he deserved to be a part of the team headed to compete at his home country.

Caleb Ewan

After meeting an ill fate at the Tour de France as well as the Giro d’Italia, Caleb Ewan thought that his bad days were over. Little did he know that probably the worst news of the year is yet to be revealed to him. Ewan was visibly upset when he came to know that he will not be taking part in the  Road World Championships in Wollongong. Caleb was really looking forward to the event, since it is being organized in his home country, Australia.

Some might say that Caleb is not fit for the tracks because he is not very good at performing on climbs. Although he is a fast finisher, he tends to meet crashes every now and then. It looks like the team may have arrived at this hard decision for the betterment of his own career. But the rider tends to disagree as he expressed his feelings on Instagram:

This one felt really good! Especially after the bad news that I won’t be at my home world championships this year

Caleb won the first position at Meiningen at the Deutschland Tour which is famous for having several short climbs. Still, the selectors feel that Caleb doesn’t have in him what it takes to perform on climbs, so it is better that he sits this one out. Caleb wittily wrote about his feelings on the matter, saying:

To be honest I don’t have much to say on the matter other than I’m heartbroken I won’t be there to represent my country and that I believe I deserved to be there. Anyways, sob story over

The roster for the Australian team is not disclosed yet. The U23 World Championships 2010 title winner Michael Matthews is more likely to be the team leader but we will have to wait to see what happens. However, Caleb has not had an easy season. He is either dealing with some sickness or recovering from a crash. He could not perform his best at the two most big events of the season, The Giro and The tour de France. Moreover, he pulled out of the Commonwealth games complaining of pain from his recent shoulder surgery.
