Sonny Colbrelli Admitted To The Hospital After Collapsing At Volta a Catalunya

The opening day of Volta a Catalunya saw some disastrous scenes unfold as Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Victorious) was hospitalized after collapsing during the stage 1 sprint. He then received emergency medical care after the finish line in Saint Feliu de Guixols.

This happened immediately after Michael Matthews won the stage, but all of the attention shifted to Colbrelli because of his medical condition.

All camera eyes were on Colbrelli, and immediately after he collapsed, four ambulances came to his rescue. He was transported to the hospital 45 minutes after the sprint, where he underwent medical care. 

Following Colbrelli’s condition, Team Bahrain Victorious made the following statement:

Following the sprint on Stage 1 of Volta a Catalunya, Sonny Colbrelli fell unconscious. 

Colbrelli underwent further medical assistance, and he was in stable condition upon being taken into an ambulance to Hospital Universitari de Girona to investigate his condition further.

Team Bahrain Victorious would like to thank the organizers and the medical teams for their support and assistance. Further updates will follow.

Colbrelli was resuming the season after dropping out of Milan-San Remo due to Bronchitis. All of our prayers go to Sonny Colbrelli for his swift recovery.
