Primož Roglič had a very different Paris-Nice last year, but with this year, he intends to make a difference. Although before heading into the event, he was unsure about his cycling form but was shocked to see his impressive performance in the opening stage.

How he overcame that opening stage and the climb was truly exceptional, even his teammates had a lot to say about his explosive performance. Although Roglic could not win the leader’s jersey, he still inflicted massive damage on his rivals.

After passing the finish line, Roglic stated:

I was not sure still about my shape and my legs, but in the end, I was in this situation with the strongest guys here. I also managed to keep pace with them.

All the teams were struggling at the event, but that is also how Jumbo-Visma laid an attack on the other teams. The team’s attacks started on the ascents of Côte de Beuil-Bois-Robert. Immediately after the descent, they exploded into a frenzy, and this is how Roglic overcame the other riders.

The foot of the climb was indeed treacherous and many riders including Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Victorious) and Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) were confused and staggered, this put them at a distance. Luckily, Roglič and his teammate Wout van Aert quickly caught up with others. In the end, it was them versus the other riders.

Although Roglic did not come second, he was able to overcome Max Schachmann, who took the overall victory from him in last year’s Paris-Nice.

Paris-Nice is just spicing up, and given how Roglic is improving and evolving, it will certainly become very hard to bring him down. Stay tuned for more updates!
