Jan Hirt Wins The 5th Stage Of Tour Of Oman

“We took responsibility in the race and we were focused on winning the stage. All the team did a great job from the beginning to the end,”
Jan Hirt

Tour Of Oman 2022 kicked off not that long ago, and now Jan Hirt has just won the fifth stage of the tour. The competition was very tough, as he passed Fausto Masnada to take the lead.

Jan Hirt rides for the UCI Team Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux, his ambitions were really high and his adrenaline took over during the last kilometers of the race, that huge risk certainly paid off.

Although Hirt managed to win, the situation was not that bright for the other riders, especially Fausto Masnada. Masnada went critical during the last kilometer of the race and then had to take some time off to ease the excruciating pain.

The fifth stage was 150.5km and it also covered the Green Mountain, which is where things got tricky for a lot of riders. A group of six riders made the peloton chase, these included Luca Rastelli (Bardiani CSF Faizanè), Laurenz Rex (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB), Antonio Angulo (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Angel Fuentes (Bugos-BH), Filippo Ridolfo (Team Novo Nordisk), Nicolas Vinokourov (Astana Qazaqstan Development).

The situation quickly escalated as many riders also crashed, Mark Cavendish was one of them. During the final corner of the race, Jan Hirt gave it his all and, he passed Masnada and won the overall classification.

Jan Hirt stated,

We took responsibility in the race and we were focused on winning the stage. All the team did a great job from the beginning to the end.

Now if don’t make mistakes tomorrow we should also win the GC but the first objective was to win the stage, so anything more is a bonus.

The Tour Of Oman will end on February 15th, this coming Tuesday. The last stage will be a 132.5km stretch from Al Mouj Muscat to Matrah Corniche. There will be tons of exciting updates, and expect more of Jan Hirt.

Hirt won the Tour Of Austria 2016, but this one was his most incredible win yet. Stay tuned for more updates!
