Ethan Hayter Optimistic About Continuing His Streak of Wins at Tour of Romandie

"I had a couple of setbacks at the start of the year, I've taken a break from racing and trained really hard and to come back like this is nice,"
Ethan Hayter Tour De Romandie

Ethan Hayter won the Tour of Romandie Prologue but the Briton aims to continue his streak of wins in this tour. This prologue was Hayter’s first WordTour win in the 5.12km time trial, impressive surely but there is more to be expected from the Grenadier.

Next up for Hayter is the 178km race which will start from La Grande Béroche to Romont. Due to his amazing performance at the time trial stage, he will now don the leader’s green jersey, a moment of immense happiness for him. This will not be the last of wins for either Hayter or Ineos Grenadiers according to Hayter himself, he wishes to make his team proud in Switzerland.

This sort of confidence is invigorating and will set the mood for the rest of the Tour. Hayter further explained:

I had a couple of setbacks at the start of the year, I’ve taken a break from racing and trained really hard and to come back like this is nice.

The course suited me well. I thought, I’ll give it a crack and it turned out well. The next few days are also good for me. I hope to win more stages and take the general classification with the team.

G [Geraint Thomas] did a really good TT as well today and it’s looking good for the week ahead. We’d like to win as many stages as possible this week as well as the GC, too.

Rohan Dennis proved and is still proving to be a ferocious rival, he finished in the second place while only being four seconds behind Hayter. With that being so, Hayter is very confident about himself, no matter what kind of rival he goes against, his performance will be spectacular.

Hayter’s pre-season training was disrupted by COVID-19 and afterward, he took a four-week break from racing from March to April. He plans to perform very strongly in the Tour of Romandie, and even start his first Grand Tour this coming summer. We wish him the very best of luck!
