Carlos Rodriguez made his team Ineos Grenadiers very proud and this is their second win in a row. Carlos won the fifth stage of Itzulia Basque Country with a triumphant final climb. The way he showed off his skills is a reminder of his caliber and intelligence. After all, he was the only survivor of the day after many riders fought with each other for a final spot at the podium.

Carlos was also joined in by Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) who attacked at the final stretch and ended up in the third position. Rodriguez and Evenepoel both made their decisive moves but only one could take the final win. On the Podium, Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos Grenadiers), Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl), and Dani Martinez (Ineos Grenadiers) shared spots.

The whole situation was not vital for Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) as he could not make even one successful move against the new powerhouses. With that failed effort, he lost the yellow jersey along with a spot on the podium.

The fifth stage of Itzulia Basque Country was not an easy one, there were no category one climbs at all. Instead, the stage had four category three climbs, a second category ascent, and the finale was filled with ramps of 20% gradient.

We also saw many accomplished riders take a fall on the cobbles, amongst them were Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) and Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe). That did not stop Carlos Rodriguez from taking the win and Dani Martinez from coming in second.
