Sule Kangangi Dies In A Tragic Crash

A real tragedy underwent on Saturday, 27th August 2022 during a racing block in the USA. Sule Kangangi was riding at the event for Team AMANI when he met a crash. Unfortunately, the fall became fatal for him and he lost his life at the gravel race of  The Overland.

Sule was working with the non-profit organization to promote cycling in African countries. He wanted to make cycling inclusive for all. His motto was to influence people to ride bikes, rather than only becoming riders. is immense love for the support will be continued as his legacy in the work. The race organizers also conveyed their grief through Instagram:

We are completely heartbroken by the tragic death of Suleiman “Sule” Kangangi during The Overland yesterday,He was a kind friend and an inspiring and heroic athlete to his teammates and the gravel cycling community at large

It further read:

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, his friends, Team AMANI, and the people of Kenya who are mourning his loss today

Sule was just 33-year-old and he was the captain of the Team AMANI. On August 13 he raced the Leadville Trail 100 MTB. On the 14th of August, he raced at the SBT GRVL in Colorado, rubbing shoulders with  John Kariuki and Nancy Akinyi (Kenya), and Jordan Schleck (Uganda)- His teammates. On August 20, he was at the Gravel Worlds in Nebraska and he came to take part in the Overland on August 27.

Team AMANI also expressed their grief over the loss of such a good rider and a man, saying in an Instagram post:

Sule is our captain, friend, and brother. He is also a father, husband, and son, Gaping holes are left when giants fall. Sule was a giant

They hope that Sule will continue to guide them as always, even from beyond:

Instead of leading us at the front of the pack, he will now lead us as our guiding pole star as we press forward in the realization of his dream

The organizers have set up a memorial page for Sule Kangangi. All of the proceeds from GoFundMe will be used for supporting the wife and kids of the rider.
