ZIPP 30 Review

Zipp 30 is an entry level wheelset. It is essentially a set of wheels that take in Zipp’s acclaimed aerodynamic experience and putting it into a training wheelset. You can easily use these wheels to take advantage of the rest of your group without breaking the bank. These wheels have the all the characteristics one needs in a clincher wheelset: quality, durability, and speed. Zipp 30 wheels are designed for everyday use with all the necessary features a beginner or casual cyclist needs.

Zipp has built their 30 wheels from the ground up based on aerodynamic principles. The rims of these wheels are aluminum, which the brand calls are a “hybrid toroidal” style. The rim juts out from behind the tires, hence the complicated name. It’s “hybrid” because Zipp has used different design methods such as parallel brake surfaces. This wheelset has a 30mm deep rim profile, and as expected, it’s combined with a wide 21.5mm rim bed. You can expect better stability and grip with this design. Also, the wheelset is well balanced so you can clock in long miles without feeling any discomfort.

The Zipp 30 also uses a new hub design compatible with 10 to 11-speed cassettes. The idea is to make this wheelset more reliable than others. The hub in these wheels can take a beating without falling apart thanks to the T-6 alloy, which is ultra strong and lightweight. Bearing that house the hubs are stainless steel. The hubs also sport precise set design so you can fasten the quick release skewers before hitting the road.

+Pros:

  • Training wheelset
  • Good build
  • Durable

-Cons:

  • Not for pro use
  • Modest performance

The Verdict
