Kinesis Crosslight Review

Cyclocross wheelsets are a different breed to most other types. This is due to the specific demands of that type of cycling. This is why you cannot always look at the various features of this wheelset like you would do with regular ones. One of these aspects, in particular, is the weight. This wheelset is quite heavy and this can seem to be a bit of a disadvantage especially in an industry where manufacturers take great pride in lightness.

With cyclocross, however, your priorities are a little different and durability is often at the forefront of your mind. This is precisely why it is easy to wave off those extra grams when discussing the Crosslight. This extra mass actually helps aid in that toughness that most cyclists are looking for. Therefore, there is a payoff here.

All of this meant that my main goal was just to see what kind of a fight the Crosslight was willing to put up against some choppy terrain. This is why I held nothing back as I rode over the most off-beaten track that I could find. The wheelset gladly accepted the challenge and showed up the rough terrain beautifully. In addition to being able to handle itself well, the Crosslight also minimized the amount of discomfort that I had to endure.

You should also keep all of this in mind when thinking about the price of this wheelset. While it is certainly on the lower end of the price spectrum, the Crosslight really does not act like it.

+Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Hardy
  • Handles rough terrain with ease

-Cons:

  • Comparatively heavy

The Verdict

The Kinesis Crosslight will perform better than you expect it to – it is a wheelset that every cyclocross rider should own.

In terms of price and value, the Crosslight really is in a league of its own.
