"We weren't entirely sure what the other teams were going to throw at us, so we knew we just had to be on our A-game and control the front"
Emma Langley Wins Joe Martin

The finale stage of Joe Martin Stage Race was sprawling over a technical 1.2km route split into 16 laps. The one team that dominated the whole finale was EF Education-TIBCO-SVB. They pushed everyone out of the way like a battering ram and protected their leader (Emma Langley) so that she could win the title.

Emma Langley relied on team spirit and unity, and that is exactly what resulted in her victory. After the race, her face was clearly radiating with excitement and happiness.

We weren’t entirely sure what the other teams were going to throw at us, so we knew we just had to be on our A-game and control the front. And the girls did just that for me.

Heidi Franz (InstaFund Racing) was certainly on a roll with the start of the race, as she was scoring for points and only bonuses to increase her overall classification. Even though Franz was ambushed by Skylar Schneider  (L39ION of Los Angeles) she remained firm in her wheels and pushed on. Relentless attacks came Franz but EF Education-TIBCO-SVB handled the onslaught thanks to their amazing teamwork.

The frustration was at an all-time high, all the cyclists could feel the pressure taking its toll on them. With only two laps remaining, the dominant teams were L39ION of Los Angeles, EF Education-TIBCO-SVB, InstaFund Racing, DNA Pro Cycling. Maggie Coles-Lyster expressed:

The last couple of laps, honestly, it got a little chaotic. The last three laps kind of rushed up on us and I felt like I kept getting shuffled back but then I had a couple teammates there with me just helping, giving me space and bringing me back up to the front.

Emma Langley and Maggie Coles-Lyster both knew how to play in cooperation with their teams. This was Maggie’s first UCI Win and she could not be more proud of this win.
