Kona Hei Hei Review
Depending on the size that you choose, the Kona Hei Hei is actually quite light. Even if you opt for a larger bike, you will still end up with a lighter, if not a light bike. This is done with the purpose of keeping the overall structure and design minimalistic and simple. This really does work for the Hei Hei.
This is one of the things that caught our attention as we each gave it a whirl. It does not really matter what shape or size you are, the Hei Hei is going to fit you like a glove. This is good news for riders who typically find it difficult to find a bike that fits.
So we decided to hit up the trails and see just how the Hei Hei responded. This is a bike that is easy to feel comfortable on. This is because it is solid and dependable, the bike not veering off course. In this way, the handling and steering are quite good. The bike is almost instinctively responsive to our commands.
The rear suspension is also quite commendable. Though it is not something you might not want to rely on too much, when the going gets tough, it is a good option. We found that it was a welcome reprieve on terrain that was jolting us around a little too much. Still, the Hei Hei is not really built for trails that are particularly rough. The tires and the components are not up to that kind of challenge. While it will get you over a short patch, it is best not to tempt fate.
If you plan on sticking with technical trails and do not expect too many harsh conditions, the Hei Hei really will be perfect. For these trails, it has everything you could need.
+Pros:
- Light frame
- Fast
- Good suspension
- Impressive steering and handling
-Cons:
- Better suited to smoother terrain
- Tires need improvement
- Expensive
The Verdict
The Kona Hei Hei is a great bike for tackling the more refined, smoother trails.
While the Kona Hei Hei might be a little expensive, those who are more at home on technical trails will find it quite useful.
