Fulcrum Racing 5 Review
Fulcrum broadcasts the Racing 5 as being ‘race ready’. To be honest, this is not the most fitting of titles for this set. They are good but will not really give you the edge that you need in a competition. If you are looking for a wheelset to put through its paces, however, this is the one for you.
Fulcrum has made some amendments to its earlier model and has cut down the weight of the previous wheelset. Although it is not as much as the company attests, there is certainly a noticeable difference. Unfortunately, it is still a bit on the heavy side, especially if you want to race with. That being said, for its price, it is not the heaviest on the market.
Riding around on the Racing 5, we were pleasantly surprised to discover just the right amount of stiffness with the wheelset. This is just one more reason why this wheelset is just what is needed for soggier climes. If you are somewhere that experiences a lot of rain, the Racing 5 will hold up well. Even after riding through mud and water, there was no water anywhere near the bearings.
You will similarly find that it works great on those roads that may not be paved as well as you like. It can take a couple of potholes every now and then and not complain too much.
+Pros:
- Affordable price
- Adequate stiffness
- Light for price range
- Durable
- Great for wet weather
-Cons:
- A little heavy
- Not great for races
The Verdict
If you are looking for something affordable and sturdy then the Fulcrum Racing 5 will be right up your alley.
Although not the best, the Racing 5 does do an admirable job of makins dure that your ride is as great as possible.
The Fulcrum Racing 5 C17 wheelset is an affordable, high performance, race-ready alloy wheelset. Using a shallower rim depth, Fulcrum has ensured that this wheelset offers both crosswind stability and remains lightweight. With the new wider rim width, this wheelset can also accommodate wider tyres for improved grip, comfort and speed out on the road.
