Campagnola Bora One Review
Campagnola first dabbled in tubular wheelsets before venturing into clincher territory. In fact, you could probably say that the Bora One is an interpretation of the original design. Now with its carbon construction and moderately aero feel, it is sufficed to say that the Bora One is light. Despite this, you could argue it is not as light as it could be, given the competition. This is not something that you could sense, however, once they are fixed to your bike. The extra grams simply fade away.
This made us all the more anxious to see what the Bora One had to offer in terms of speed. It certainly did not disappoint! The wheels got us to some pretty incredible speeds quite fast. Not to mention, it was absolutely a breeze when hitting the inclines. Along with the speed, of course, we also noticed a comfortable amount of stiffness with the wheelset. Similarly, it is difficult to beat the Bora One for stability. It offers incredible support even when the weather gets a little dicey.
A point that deserves special mention is the 3 diamante brake track that was introduced to the wheelset. It balances out the speed that you can pick up with these wheels. Of course, the elephant in the room is the price of the Campagnola Bora One – it is nothing to sneeze at. Unless you are looking to compete at a pretty intense level, the Bora One may not be worth draining your bank account.
+Pros:
- Lightweight
- Wider rims
- Gets great speed, even on incline
- Excellent brake track
-Cons:
- Expensive
The Verdict
If you are all about winning, you certainly need the Campagnolo Bora One accompanying you on your victory lap.
Although this wheelset is quite an investment, it will definitely pay you back in speed, stability, and an excellent performance
Campagnolo Bora One 35 Clincher WheelsetOffering maximum aerodynamics, extreme speed and unrivalled handling, the Bora One wheels are sure to give you ultimate performance whether you’re sprinting on the flat, flying down a descent, or attacking a climb. Campagnolo has increased the rim width from 20.5mm to 24.2mm – this has not only improved the aerodynamics but allowed the wheel to accommodate wider tyres. Wider tyres increase control, improve grip and make for a more comfortable ride. A wider rim also increases structural integrity without any weight increase to the wheelset.Improved Braking in All ConditionsFor the Bora One 35 Clincher Wheelset, Campagnolo engineers developed an all-new construction, which has created a braking performance that far outperforms anything found on current carbon rims. The Campy Tech Lab’s developments focused on providing the rider with the same braking performance when riding in the wet as when riding in the dry. The result of these developments is Campagnolo’s most advanced braking surface technology ever. They call it AC3 (All Conditions Carbon Control).Reduced WeightThe weight of the wheelset is also further reduced, thanks to the front hub having a smaller profile. Even though Campagnolo’s engineers managed to reduce the weight and size of the hub, they were able to save the same high-performance characteristics that the Bora wheels are renowned for.Features: Full Carbon high profile 35mm clincher rim Includes brake pads specifically for carbon wheels AC3 treatment on the brake surface, improving braking in all conditions RDB (Rim Dynamic Balance) exclusive technology moulded inside the rims, assures perfect balancing of the rims even at high speeds Ultra-lightweight decals eliminate the need for heavy adhesives and painting, reducing the overall weight by nearly 15g Aluminium hub with oversize flange with cup and cone USB bearings, Aluminium axle Aerodynamic spokes with exclusive Mega-G3 spoke pattern and anti-rotation system Quick release with eccentric-closure system Weight: 1.40kg Technologies: AC3: Under dry conditions the new technology increases braking performance 3% over the previous Bora while increasing the gap with its closest competitor by over 6%. However, when the conditions are insidious and rain has the competition worried, AC3 allows the Bora to excel. While the previous edition of the Bora offered results far beyond those found on competitors’ wheels, the AC3 technology increases braking performance an astounding 43% over past Campagnolo models. The powerful braking of AC3 represents a nearly 55% performance gap over that of its closest competitor making for a rather significant advantage when the heat of the race is on.
