Campagnola Bora One Review
Campagnola first dabbled in tubular wheelsets before venturing into clincher territory. In fact, you could probably say that the Bora One is an interpretation of the original design. Now with its carbon construction and moderately aero feel, it is sufficed to say that the Bora One is light. Despite this, you could argue it is not as light as it could be, given the competition. This is not something that you could sense, however, once they are fixed to your bike. The extra grams simply fade away.
This made us all the more anxious to see what the Bora One had to offer in terms of speed. It certainly did not disappoint! The wheels got us to some pretty incredible speeds quite fast. Not to mention, it was absolutely a breeze when hitting the inclines. Along with the speed, of course, we also noticed a comfortable amount of stiffness with the wheelset. Similarly, it is difficult to beat the Bora One for stability. It offers incredible support even when the weather gets a little dicey.
A point that deserves special mention is the 3 diamante brake track that was introduced to the wheelset. It balances out the speed that you can pick up with these wheels. Of course, the elephant in the room is the price of the Campagnola Bora One – it is nothing to sneeze at. Unless you are looking to compete at a pretty intense level, the Bora One may not be worth draining your bank account.
+Pros:
- Lightweight
- Wider rims
- Gets great speed, even on incline
- Excellent brake track
-Cons:
- Expensive
The Verdict
If you are all about winning, you certainly need the Campagnolo Bora One accompanying you on your victory lap.
Although this wheelset is quite an investment, it will definitely pay you back in speed, stability, and an excellent performance
While the Campagnolo Bora One 35 wheelset would be perfectly at home on any Grand Tour winning road bike, holding the same basic structure as top-of-the-range wheels, Campagnolo have optimised these wheels for the strength, durability and serviceability requirements of everyday athletes. The 35mm deep, mid-depth carbon fibre rim construction means that these wheels hit the sweet spot between aerodynamics and lightweight. Weighing just 1405 grams a set, they allow you to dance up the climbs with ease, without losing too much time on the flat. Thanks to the 24.2mm rim width, this wheelset can also accommodate much larger tyres, helping to improve rider comfort and grip out on the road. These clincher-compatible wheels also make workshop and roadside wheel maintenance as easy as possible, for those of us who don’t have access to a pro-team mechanic. This wheelset doesn’t just ride faster than its competitors, they stop faster too, thanks to the AC3 (All Conditions Carbon Control) technology constructed brake track. When used with the proprietary brake pads provided, these wheels offer up to 40% better braking performance in wet weather, and 20% better braking performance in dry conditions compared with rival carbon wheelsets. These technologically advanced rims are combined with an equally advanced set of large flange alloy hubs, which are filled with USB sealed ceramic bearings to guarantee a long-lasting smooth spin, maximised rider efficiency and increased power transfer. These high-quality hubs are laced to the rim with bladed alloy spokes, 18 on the front and 21 on the rear which results in a more durable wheelset – an essential quality for heavier riders or rougher roads.
