Specialized Vita Review

Specialized has created a great line of sporty-looking fitness and commuter bikes for women with this line, and we tried some of them out ourselves to see if they live up to this brand’s reputation. If we had any complaints about some of these models, it was really just that the seating was not sufficient for those of us with somewhat bigger posteriors! Aside from this, we were all happy with the performance and specs.

Specialized has used their own premium aluminum for the lower tiers of this range, with ultra light carbon for the expert models. With Shimano Deore and Shimano 105 componentry, we thought that the upper price limits might be a little steep, but performance-wise these bikes hold up.

The women-specific geometry and feminine look of these bikes really stand out. Rack mounts will come in handy for those long commutes, and the full length fenders will ease those wetter weather conditions. Smooth rides and good control are highlights of these bikes, so for their purpose, they win our recommendation.

+Pros:

  • Geometry and feminine design
  • Mid-level Shimano components
  • Mudguards and pannier rack mounts available
  • Convenient and smooth handling on and off road
  • Lightweight carbon on expert models
  • Perfect for fitness and commuting

-Cons:

  • Top level bikes a little steeply priced
  • Small saddles (which can be upgraded, thankfully)

The Verdict

An affordable buy for a quality commuter and exercise bike that is highly functional and looks attractive too.

We really liked getting to review the Specialized Vita, and as you can see, our only complaints are easy to address with a little upgrade. We highly recommend these women-specific hybrids for your urban riding and fitness needs.
