Kona Blast Review
Kona has proved time and again that they are a reliable manufacturer of hardtails. This is why we wasted no time at all in heading to the roughest terrain we could find with the Kona Blast. Here we put the Blast through its paces to see just what it could do.
There is no denying that the Blast is one of the most fun hardtails out there. You really don’t have to be concerned about any type of mountainside as this bike can handle it and then some. It is not just the way that the Blast can tackle this terrain that is impressive, it is also the relative lack of damage done to the bike. This hardtail has some quality components that just keep on ticking.
Even as we went over the roughest parts of the mountains, the vibrations weren’t too bad at all. This, of course, was all thanks to the RockShox fork which absorbed most of the impact. That being said, this hardtail could use a better fork, considering the kind of terrain that it is capable of dealing with. The Shimano hydraulic disc brakes are pretty good and will slow the bike when heading downhill at faster speeds.
One of the downsides of the Blast is the seat which is not very comfortable at all. Also, it doesn’t seem to have too long of a lifespan, so you will be better off getting a different one. The only other complaint regarding the Blast is the shifting, which could use some improvement.
- Great geometry
- Good durability
- Decent fork

- Uncomfortable seat
- Poor shifting
The Kona Blast is far from perfect in terms of specs and some of the components. What it lacks in these departments, however, it makes up for in pure resilience and fun. This is a hardtail that is well suited to a careless adventurer.
