Dawes XC21 Review

Dawes is a classic brand. The latest Dawes XC21 bikes combine that classic allure with modern functionality. This bike model is marketed for entry-level road cycling and mountain biking. We took it outdoors to see how the iconic British brand fares in modern times.

This is a big-wheeled 29er. Some don’t like 29ers, but Dawes has always been an exception. The XC29 disc is perfect for tacking various terrains except the most rough. If you want a solid bike for everyday commutes and the occasional cycling adventure, we highly recommend this model.

We also loved the fact that this bike is the budget range. It won’t be hard to find a new bike of this model for less than $600. Regardless of the price, the model sports some impressive specs. There’s 27-speed Shimano Alivio gears, RST Blaze 29 suspension fork with lockout and Clarks Skeletal hydraulic disc brakes. The tires are Kenda Nevegal. These tires are suitable for the outdoors, but on paved concrete or tarmac, it could do better.

+Pros:

  • Budget price
  • Cool specs
  • Classic brand
  • Multifunctional

-Cons:

  • Tires best suited for outdoors, not urban areas

The Verdict

Dawes XC21 is the ideal budget bike for off-road adventures as well as daily commuting.

This model rides smoothly and nimbly thanks to modern specs outfitted to a classic design. The lightweight frame is easy to control. We highly recommend Dawes XC21 for those seeking high performance, daily use bikes.
