Kona Mohala Review
Kona Mohala is widely regarded as one of the best mountain bike models for women. This model was first introduced in 2012, and since then has gotten top marks for speed, durability and comfort. We took this model out for a spin to see how the expectations fared against the actual thing.
The frame of Mohala bikes has standovers lower than usual. The bike has 29-inch wheels, so the low standover is necessary. The larger than usual wheels are perfect for trail riders who love challenging singletracks and amazing fireroads. The bike is more responsive and speedy thanks to the wheel size.
The forks on this mode are RockShox XC 32 TK, which adds to the functionality offered by the women-friendly design. We really liked the Avid Elixir 1 hydraulic disc brakes, which were lightweight and extremely efficient. As every MTBer knows, brakes are the most important part for a mountain bike. We can say that you can definitely rely on these brakes.
The downside is that Mohala will not suit every woman. It’s clearly intended for smaller sized people who cannot be comfortable on most of the retail MTBs. All women are not single sized. If you are a tall or slightly larger woman, this model won’t do.
- Women-friendly design
- Comfortable saddle
- Excellent brakes
- Ideal for trail riders
- Not suitable for women with larger frames
If you are a female mountain biker, Kona Mohala will be perfect to conquer single tracks of all kinds. It’s lightweight and designed with care and specificity for female cyclists.
Though not all women would like the design, some will simply love it. This model comes with good breaks and reliable specs that you can count on to make your MTB adventures fun and safe.
