Santa Cruz Stigmata Review

It is not surprising that all of the focus on the Santa Cruz Stigmata is on the frame. This is because the frame is truly conversation-worthy for many reasons. First off, it comes in both C and CC frame. The CC frame has managed to shave off about 280 grams off the overall frame. Now, the Stigmata is far from cheap but it is cheaper than what you would expect it to be. This is because Santa Cruz has used a carbon that is just as lightweight and durable but costs a little less.

We realized that once we started hitting the trails that you couldn’t really tell the difference. This is a bike that has been made to head off road. Its geometry as well as its slack fork allows you to tackle all types of surfaces with equal amount of confidence. This is a bike that exudes stability and even the terrain got a little tricky, we found that the handling was just superb.

The traction on the tires was great and this helps to keep the Stigmata moving even through muddy soil. The brakes help to offset the serious speed that this bike is capable of picking up. The only disappointing feature on this bike is that the chain had a tendency to drop. This can be a serious disadvantage if you are hoping to compete on the Stigmata.

The Stigmata’s wheels are capable of handling both wide and narrow tires. This means that you can switch them out depending if you are going to be trekking through the mud or hitting up paved road.

+Pros:

  • Excellent geometry
  • Lightweight
  • Good handling
  • Rides well on rough terrain

-Cons:

  • A bit pricey
  • Chain tends to drop

The Verdict

The Santa Cruz Stigmata is the type of cyclocross that you need to ride at least once in your life. Its performance more than makes up for its price tag.
