Cannondale CAAD12 Review

It’s no surprise that the Cannondale CAAD12 earned the 2016 Bike of the Year. Cannondale has been known for its unwavering loyalty to aluminum, and that’s why they’ve been able to use the strong yet lightweight smartformed alloy for the CAAD12 series. We could really feel the smoothness and comfort afforded by this material when we took the bike for a ride. If you need a mid-range race bike, then this just might be it. It’s quite possibly the best aluminum alternative to carbon for a racing bike.

We loved the geometry of this bike, and the handlebar and brackets make for that ideal race positioning and stellar performance. We could take corners on what felt like rocket speeds without a hitch. The bike gives an overall smooth feel, with a nice stiff front end and mostly vibration-damped rides. We couldn’t really find anything to complain about, but we did feel that the saddles might be a little unpleasant on longer rides. Overall, the CAAD12 is quite reliable and high-performance for such a low price.

+Pros:

  • Smooth handling
  • Lightweight and strong smartformed alloy
  • Highest quality components for unbelievable price

-Cons:

  • May need to switch out the saddle
