BMC Granfondo Review

BMC Switzerland has been in the cycle manufacturing industry since the 80s, and created some world-famous road bikes models, including Tour de France winners. So we expected to be quite pleased with the performance of their BMC Granfondo bike range.

We took a few of these models out to the streets for a few hours to test them out. For the most part, they were as smooth as butter. Their full carbon frames come in at just a little under the average weight for an enthusiast’s bike. All the models we tried were fast, light, stable, and efficient overall.

Shimano and Tiagra componentry on the mid-range models are average for the price range, but no complaints, as these bikes are high performers to begin with. The slightly higher weight of these components were not noticeable though.

The finishing kits are comfortable, and the relaxed geometry is compliant and conducive. With good stopping power and good gearing, we were quite pleased with these bikes. We only felt that the handlebars were a little on the wider side, and the frames of the lower end models are a little heavier than other bikes of their class.

+Pros:

  • Smooth riding
  • Lightweight frames
  • Excellent choice of componentry
  • Relaxed geometry
  • Stable and precise steering

-Cons:

  • Wide handlebars
  • Midrange models a little heavy compared to others in their class

The Verdict

Definitely a great bike range for enthusiasts who ride often and intermediate level road racers looking to up their game.

We would recommend the BMC Grandfondo if you need a good quality midrange road bike for some heavy-duty performance. They may not be pro bikes, but they will certainly give you some high speeds and superb handling on the road.
