Vitus Sommet Review

Vitus has been known for producing some top-notch trail and enduro bikes, but their Sommet range doesn’t quite meet the mark. We took a few bikes to the roughest trails we could find and for the most part, they did well.

As enthusiasts, we couldn’t look past the excess weight, as the frames were a lot heavier than average on some models. That’s not what you’d expect from a bike of this class and price. They do have some decent SRAM and Shimano componentry, and offer enough stiffness for rougher rides.

The full suspension and travel definitely delivered, and the wheelsets were nice and responsive, fast to accelerate, and smooth, with excellent traction too. But if you are going to be paying a few thousand bucks for some pretty serious riding, there are better choices out there, and you can find plenty from Vitus.

+Pros:

  • Good SRAM, Shimano componentry
  • Excellent acceleration
  • Good travel and suspension
  • Responsive and smooth

-Cons:

  • Way too heavy for this level
  • Not ideal for enthusiasts

The Verdict

Not the best MTBs from Vitus, but if the weight is not a problem for you, the Sommet bikes are still a decent buy.

While we did like the performance of the Vitus Sommet bikes, we were not pleased with how it felt. While the aluminum frames can take some damage, the weight takes away from the otherwise good enthusiast-level specs.
