Cube Elly Review

It may not have the classic lines of a traditional bike, but the Cube Elly is still distinctive and fresh to look at. It is designed to be an easy going entry level E-bike so let us see how it has got on with that.

The Elly has an aluminum Superlite Trekking Hybrid Premium Comfort frame. It is one of the main contributors to the Elly’s stable and easy going ride quality as is the fork, an R Suntour NEX-E25. The brakes are Magura HS11s with hydraulic calipers. Further aid for ride quality is provided by the Schwalbe Fat Frank tires. Shifting is taken care of by a Shimano Nexus SL-7S31 system. Shimano is also responsible for the front hub which is an HB-T4000 as well as the rear hub, a Nexus SG-C3000-7R.

Of course, the most defining feature of this bike is that it has electrical assistance. The engine is a Bosch Drive Unit Active which is powered by a PowerPack 500 battery also from Bosch. The battery has some impressive performance with an output of 400Wh but there is an option available to upgrade it to 500Wh to increase the range.

Despite belonging to a relatively new range on biking, the Cube Elly still contain hints toward the past. The whole design is retro-inspired especially with features like the light and saddle. It feels truly at home in an urban environment, a gentle cruiser for the everyday commuter.

+Pros:

  • Comfortable to ride
  • Safe construction
  • Easy to ride
  • Classic design

-Cons:

  • Limited range on the battery
  • Battery and motor makes it quite heavy

The Verdict

The Cube Elly is built well to take you around town in safety and comfort with the added benefits of an electrical power.
