BMC Alpenchallenge Review

The BMC Alpenchallenge hybrid bikes were fun to review, mostly because the speeds we were able to achieve were positively exhilarating! We took these bikes off road and on, and they did fairly well across the board. The off road rides were not the smoothest, but these bikes are scary-fast! The Alpenchallenge don’t just handle some climbs and drops pretty well, but they make for a good commute bike as well. They’re also quite low maintenance and look sleek and stylish too.

Perhaps the only qualms we really had with these bikes were some lateral stiffness and poor traction on the back end with some of the bottom of the line bikes. The top end carbon-based bikes are much lighter and smoother, however, so if you are looking to compete on a race or two, go with those. Other than that, it’s hard to go wrong with a BMC Alpenchallege.

+Pros:

  • Incredible speed
  • Lightweight
  • Carbon models available
  • Looks sleek and no-nonsense
  • Great commuter
  • Speed! These bikes are so fast, it’s worth mentioning twice!

-Cons:

  • Slides out a bit when off road
  • Lateral stiffness on wheels

The Verdict

A great, versatile hybrid bike that is perfect for commuting and offers some ridiculous speeds for road races.

The BMC Alpenchallenge bikes are well worth every penny if you’re looking for a low to midrange hybrid for basic urban riding or for those fast-paced races. We have yet to review a bad BMC creation, so we would definitely recommend these trusty bicycles to anyone.
