Supra RCA 55 Review

Supra RCA 55 is a rare type of wheel you will only usually find in discount stores. This is a mid mid-priced aero road wheelset, which will be a good choice if you want extra speed for your bike. These wheels range from alloy to carbon clincher. The range specializes in 55mm high rims that are about 23mm wide. The wheels have alloy walls and decals covered in a clear coating that will protect the wheels from external wear and tear. The wheels also have a lovely UD satin finish.

As for spokes, the front wheel has 20 Sapim CX-Delta Black spokes and the rear wheel has 24. This isn’t exactly an ingenious design but the spokes do evenly distribute power from the pedals to the wheels. It can strike a good balance, but you will have to exert some control when speeding. Do not expect superior balance and control as you see in Zipp or Shimano aerodynamic wheelsets. The front hub is SL 2 with a seal cartridge bearing. The rear hub is SL V2-type 4 with seal cartridge bearing. The freehub is quite generic but supports up to 11 speeds. The wheelset includes SL skewers. Overall, this wheelset weighs 1,805 grams. It is quite an amount to handle, especially when racing and climbing. However, you can get used to the resistance posed by the weight and learn to speed.

All in all, these set of wheels are worth having if you don’t mind the heaviness. The wheels roll quite fast and can speed quickly without a problem. Use these wheels for everyday training, not race training. You can overall get excellent value for your money if you can locate a store that still sells this brand.

+Pros:

  • Budget friendly
  • Good stiffness
  • Even power distribution from pedals to wheels

-Cons:

  • Rare
  • Heavy

The Verdict

Supra RCA 55 is not an easy set of wheels to get one’s hands on. But if you do find these in a bicycle store, don’t overlook them.

They can give your bike extra speed and stiffness. They are heavy but do not hinder regular cycling.
