Specialized Source Review

If you are a serious cyclist, you probably have a couple of bikes in your collection. This is usually because you need different bikes to ride on different terrains, slopes, and other topographies. The Specialized Source may not be an ideal fit for all of your needs but it sure does try hard.

A lot of cyclists prefer riding around to either driving or walking. Of course, if you are in a city, this becomes a little harder. The Source, however, is the solution to these problems. It’s comfortable and fast so you do not have to worry about it getting you where you need to go. Most importantly, however, it is incredibly responsive. This comes particularly in handy if you are trying to weave around in a metropolitan area.

Since the Specialized Source claims to be a bike that can cater to all of your needs, we took it for a test drive. Our first stop was, of course, the busy streets. This bike is truly in its element as you weave through crowds and change speeds. It also stops on a dime, making it one of the safer options out there.

Even if you are looking to gain a little elevation, the 2×10 gearing with an 11-32 cassette has got you covered. This means that if you are planning on hitting slightly different roads on your days off, you are not going to have too much of a problem.

+Pros:

  • A light frame
  • Responsive gears
  • A fast ride
  • Easy to handle

-Cons:

  • Is a little pricey
  • Pedals are not to everyone’s liking but can be switched out

The Verdict

The less than stellar price notwithstanding, the Specialized Source is a bike that cannot and should not be ignored.

OK, so you are going to have to shell out some serious cash to call the Source your own. You know what, however? It is worth every penny. While it obviously cannot tackle every path, it does a great job at handling most of what it is thrown at it.
