Merlin Fuse Review

The Merlin Fuse we reviewed made use of a Ridley frameset – imported from Belgium. The frame was completely carbon fiber, along with a carbon fork as well.

The design of the frame is very sporty indeed, and is made for damping the bumps and crevices that are common on the streets of today.

If you’re looking for a forgiving bicycle, this is probably it. Cables are routed both internally and externally, meaning that the bike has a far sleeker look than most others in its class. To complement the beautiful frameset is a Shimano 105 groupset with 11 speed gearing and some of the best stopping power out there in terms of braking.

The brakes work very well indeed with the Mavic wheels that come stock with the Fuse. These aren’t the most unique or memorable wheels out there, but when paired with the 25mm Continental Ultra Sport II tires, offer a very decent riding experience overall, with great grip on downhill rides.

The only place where the Fuse didn’t shine was the finish of the bike – thee basic Aluminum finish shouted “budget bike”. While very dependable, the bike lost some style points.

+Pros:

  • Great frameset
  • Shimano 105 group set
  • Internal/External cable routing
  • Sleek design
  • Great stopping power

-Cons:

  • Average wheels and tires
  • Average comfort
  • Budget aluminum finish

The Verdict

The Merlin Fuse waves its wand and magically provides you with a wonderful cycling experience for a very good price indeed. A bike for the connoisseur in you.

We had a lot of fun riding the Merlin Fuse downhill, uphill and along the roads of our review location. While the finish left a lot to be desired, we loved the experience it provided us!
